Angela Lombardi is a researcher and professor with expertise in a range of fields, including inorganic and bioinorganic chemistry, signal processing, and computational neuroscience. She currently holds a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor at the Polytechnic University of Bari, Italy.
Angela Lombardi graduated with honours in Telecommunications Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bari in 2014. She then obtained her PhD in Signal Processing and Computational Neuroscience (with a thesis on multidimensional dynamic analysis of physiological brain signals) from the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Bari in 2018.
From July 2018 to December 2020, Lombardi worked as a post-doc researcher in Computational Neuroscience at the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, where she was involved in nextMR and AIM experiments.
From December 2020 to August 2022, Lombardi served as an Assistant Professor in the Physics Department at the University of Bari. Her research focused on developing novel efficient algorithms for the early diagnosis and personalised staging of neurodegenerative diseases and ageing processes using advanced artificial intelligence methods in distributed computing environments.
She then returned to the Polytechnic University of Bari as an Assistant Professor, where her research interests include Complex Networks computational modelling, Big Data processing, and Explainable Artificial Intelligence techniques.
Previously, during her time at the University of Naples Federico II, Lombardi studied the role of chronic hyperglycaemia in impaired insulin secretion, aiming to identify the molecular mechanisms involved in glucosamine-mediated ER stress in beta-cell dysfunction. She also demonstrated the mechanistic role of beta 2 adrenergic receptor in insulin release during her PhD program at the University of Salento.
