Emad M. Boctor, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Johns Hopkins Medicine Division of Medical Imaging Physics within the Department of Radiology and Radiological Science. He holds a joint appointment in the Whiting School of Engineering's Department of Computer Science. Dr. Boctor's research focuses on medical robotics, ultrasound imaging, photoacoustic imaging, and image-guided intervention. He has authored and co-authored numerous journal articles and holds several patents.
Dr. Boctor received his B.Sc. in biomedical engineering from Cairo University in Egypt and subsequently obtained his master's and doctoral degrees in computer science from Johns Hopkins University.
After joining the faculty at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Boctor established the Medical UltraSound Imaging and Intervention Collaboration (MUSiiC) Research Laboratory. This laboratory focuses on developing innovative ultrasound technologies for medical applications. He is also affiliated with the JHU Laboratory for Computational Sensing and Robotics (LCSR) and the Computer Integrated Surgical Systems and Technology (CISST) Engineering Research Center, a National Science Foundation-designated center.
Dr. Boctor has made significant contributions to the field of ultrasound imaging and intervention. He has authored and co-authored over 25 journal articles and a book titled "Enabling Technologies for Ultrasound Imaging in Computer-Assisted Intervention." His research interests include ultrasound elastography, photoacoustic imaging, and the development of robotic systems for medical applications.
Dr. Boctor's affiliations include the Computer Integrated Surgical Systems and Technology (CISST) Engineering Research Center and the Encephalitis Center. He holds several patents in the field of medical imaging and robotics.
