Evan Morikawa graduated from High Tech High in 2006 with a High School Diploma in Engineering. From 2006 to 2011, Morikawa attended Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, where they earned a BS in Engineering with a focus on User Experience Design, Computer Science, and Entrepreneurship.

Prior to OpenAI, Morikawa worked at Nylas from 2014 to 2020, where they held multiple roles, including Director of Engineering, Engineering Manager, and Senior Software Engineer. During their time at Nylas, they built Electron email clients, communication APIs, and engineering teams.
From 2012 to 2014, Morikawa co-founded and served as the CTO of Proximate, where they built a social network analysis platform for event organizers that integrated LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook. Additionally, they have held various positions at TechStars, Google, Harvard University, Vision Robotics Corporation, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and Kiva.
Morikawa also has an entrepreneurial spirit, co-founding Alight Learning in 2008, where they served as CEO & Co-Founder.
