Jun Gong is a Senior Research Scientist at Apple, where he is part of the Sensing Technologies Group. Gong completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science in the XDiscovery Lab at Dartmouth College, advised by Xing-Dong Yang.
Gong's research covers a range of topics in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). He designs, builds, and evaluates novel input and interaction for emerging platforms, media, and technology to enhance user experiences.
Gong has developed sensing techniques for wearable devices, allowing users to input data without a touchscreen. He has also worked on bringing sensing capabilities to everyday objects such as garments and accessories, known as seamless contextual sensing.
Gong has published extensively in the field of Human-Computer Interaction, with a focus on novel input methods and emerging technologies. His notable publications include:
Jun Gong was born on November 29, 1992, in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. He grew up in a regular family as an only child. During high school, Gong was selected by a teacher from the art industry to study acting due to his good looks. After graduating from Donghua University in Shanghai, Gong moved to Beijing to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
Gong began his career as a model, appearing in various advertisements. He became known as "The Little Prince of Advertising" due to his frequent appearances in ads. He made his acting debut in 2015 with a role in the historical drama Sword Chaos. In 2016, he co-starred in the youth drama Advance Bravely, adapted from a danmei novel of the same name.
Gong gained recognition for his role as the 11th Prince Yuan Che in the 2017 fantasy historical drama Lost Love in Times, and further popularity for his role as a mature and kind surgeon in Begin Again (2020). He also lent his voice to the character Apollo in the French animated film Tall Tales from the Magical Garden of Antoon Krings (2019).
Gong's breakthrough came with his role in the ancient Wuxia drama Word of Honor (2021), where he played Wen Ke Xing, a gentle yet deep-minded and cruel character. The series was a massive hit, receiving over 11 billion views on Douyin, a popular Chinese media platform.
Since then, Gong has starred in several successful productions, including Dream Garden (2021), The Legend of Anle (2023), and Rising with the Wind (2023). He has also become a sought-after celebrity model, endorsing numerous commercial brands globally and becoming the face of luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton and Tiffany & Co.
Gong has received several awards, including the "Most Popular Actor of the Year" at the Golden Bud Network Film and Television Festival. He has graced the covers of renowned magazines such as Harper's Bazaar, GQ, and Vogue+.
Jun Gong (born November 29, 1992), also known as Simon Gong, is a Chinese actor and model. He was born and raised in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. Gong has been named a brand ambassador for several companies, including Mentholatum, Little Touch, DR. WU, and Youku. He has also partnered with luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton and Tiffany & Co. In 2021, he was chosen as a spokesperson for the smartphone Honor 50 series, which saw a successful launch and a rise in market share.
Gong has supported various charitable causes and organizations. In 2018, he released a photobook, "1129", and donated all proceeds to charity. He has also made donations to support flood relief efforts, schools, and students in need.
