Krzysztof Fidelis is a Polish research professor at the University of California, Davis, with previous affiliations with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Uppsala University. Fidelis co-founded the Critical Assessment of Structure Prediction (CASP) initiative in 1994 with John Moult to evaluate modelling methods in structural biology. Fidelis also heads the Protein Structure Prediction Center, first established at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from 1994 to 2005, and then at UC Davis from 2005 onwards.
Fidelis' research primarily focuses on the development of methods for structure modelling assessment, and he has contributed to research in CASP and protein structure prediction. He has an h-index of 45 and has co-authored 85 publications, receiving 7781 citations.
One of his notable works includes a paper on a measure for evaluating secondary structure prediction methods, which was published in the Journal of Molecular Biology in 1999. Fidelis has also collaborated on applied modelling projects, such as producing structural models for the Rad1 cell cycle checkpoint proteins. The CASP initiative, now in its fifteenth biennial assessment, involves approximately one hundred research groups worldwide, with over 67,000 submissions on approximately one hundred protein modelling targets submitted in the last round. The initiative aims to advance protein structure modelling by conducting community-wide assessments to determine the strengths and weaknesses of current methods, fostering progress in the field.
