Miles Brundage is a researcher and research manager with a focus on the responsible governance of artificial intelligence. He completed his undergraduate degree at George Washington University, graduating with a BA in Political Science. Brundage then went on to Arizona State University, where he obtained a PhD in Human and Social Dimensions of Science and Technology in 2019.
Brundage began his career working at the Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E) for two years. He also interned at the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC) and completed various internships related to energy policy.
In 2016, Brundage became a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford's Future of Humanity Institute, where he remained until 2018. During this time, he also served as an AI Policy Research Fellow with the institute's Strategic AI Research Center.
In 2018, Brundage joined OpenAI as a Research Scientist and later became Head of Policy Research, leading policy research with a particular focus on the responsible deployment of language generation systems. He is currently an Affiliate of the Centre for the Governance of AI and a member of the AI Task Force at the Center for a New American Security.
