Nikolas Tezak

Early Life and Education

Nikolas Tezak was born in Germany and studied physics at Heidelberg University. He then moved to the United States, where he obtained a PhD in Applied Physics from Stanford University under the supervision of Hideo Mabuchi. During his PhD, Tezak developed modelling techniques and applications for quantum feedback networks.

Career

Tezak currently works as a researcher and tech lead for the ML side of OpenAI, where he has contributed to various projects, including Deep RL for robotics, the first version of the OpenAI API inference stack, and the training of the original GPT-3.5 and GPT-4. Prior to joining OpenAI, he worked at Rigetti Computing, where he worked on the full stack (hardware and software) for developing, characterizing, and operating quantum computers.

Publications and Patents

Tezak has published several articles in the field of physics and quantum computing, including:

In addition to his publications, Tezak has also filed for several patents in the field of quantum computing, including methods for preprocessing data using a quantum processor, modular control in a quantum computing system, and performing calibration processes. Many of these patents were assigned to Rigetti & Co, LLC, where Tezak previously worked.

Awards and Recognition

Tezak has been recognized for his contributions to the field of physics, including being elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Physics. He has also been interviewed by various media outlets, such as Fast Company and The Wall Street Journal, to discuss the latest advancements in AI and quantum computing.
