Russell Bates (June 6, 1941 – April 9, 2018) was a Native American writer known for co-writing the Star Trek: The Animated Series episode "How Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth" with David Wise. The episode won the 1974-1975 Daytime Emmy for "Outstanding Entertainment Children's Series." Bates served in the US Air Force in the 1960s and was a protege of Gene L. Coon. He also wrote a 1974 episode for the television series Isis and acted in the films Gorilas a todo ritmo (1981) and Porky's II: The Next Day (1983).
