Sui Nin Nicholas Yang

Sui Nin Nicholas Yang is a software engineer based in New York City. Yang currently works at Vercel on Turborepo. He is also the author of several publications and DVDs on martial arts.

Early Life and Education

Yang began training in martial arts as a child under the guidance of his father, Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming, at Yang's Martial Arts Association (YMAA) in Boston, Massachusetts. He has competed in several international and national traditional Kungfu tournaments, winning several medals and awards.

After completing his primary and secondary education, Yang enrolled at Brown University, where he obtained a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science. He then worked as a back-end Java web programmer while taking part-time classes in digital art at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).

In 2005, Yang enrolled at Ex'pression College for Digital Arts (ECDA) in Emeryville, California, graduating with a B.A.S. degree in Computer Animation and Visual Effects in October 2007.

Career

Yang has held various positions throughout his career. He worked as a back-end Java web programmer and taught at YMAA Boston, where he also managed the school and assumed the position of President of YMAA International.

Yang has authored several instructional DVDs on martial arts, including "Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu Intermediate Sequences" (2009) and "Shaolin Long Fist Kung Fu Advanced Sequences" Parts 1 and 2 (2010 and 2013, respectively).

In addition to his work in martial arts, Yang has published several research articles. His notable publications include:

Yang has also worked on various projects, including Vicuna, a programming language for the web, and "Data By Design," a digital book on the history of data visualization. He maintains a blog called "Up To Interpretation", where he writes about programming and other topics.

Personal Life

Yang resides with his father at the YMAA Retreat Center in California, where he works as the Assistant Director and continues to train in Shaolin, Taijiquan, and Qigong. He also manages YMAA International and travels with his father to teach in seminars worldwide.

Yang has a range of interests outside of martial arts and computers, including general art, music, education, creativity, and advancements in technology. He hopes to bring together martial arts, digital art, modern learning tools, and education.
