Yousuf Khan is a Pakistani-American scientific researcher. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in cell biology and genetics, and from the University of Cambridge with a master's degree in pathology. He is currently pursuing a PhD in molecular and cellular physiology and a master's degree in biomedical informatics at the Stanford School of Medicine.
Khan is a graduate student in the lab of Dr. Axel Brunger, where he studies translational recoding. He is particularly interested in the rare phenomenon of translational reprogramming in humans and has developed a bioinformatic program for detecting frameshift signals in humans. He has also conducted research on ribosomal frameshifting, AAA+ ATPase function, and biophysical tools such as CryoEM and single molecule FRET. His work has been published in several journals, including Molecular Cell and Nature's Leukemia, and he has been recognised with awards such as the Barry Goldwater Fellowship and the Winston Churchill Scholarship.
Outside of his research, Khan has been involved in various extracurricular activities. He served as the president of the Pakistani Student Association and was vice president of the school's club tennis team while at the University of Maryland. He is also interested in science funding policy and has contributed to proposed legislation on the topic.
Yousuf Khan is a graduate student at Stanford University, where he is a Knight-Hennessy Scholar and an NSF fellow. Khan studies translational recoding in the laboratory of Dr. Axel Brunger. He is interested in applying biophysics techniques and tools to study basic phenomena.
Khan received his B.Sc. in Cellular Biology and Genetics from the University of Maryland, College Park. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. from Stanford University. During his time at the University of Maryland, he worked with Dr. Jon Dinman and discovered his interest in translational reprogramming.
Khan's research focuses on ribosomal frameshifting, a strategy commonly associated with viral genomes. He is particularly interested in determining whether human messages also undergo recoding. To identify potential recoding sites, he developed a bioinformatic program for detecting frameshift signals in humans.
Yousuf Khan is a Pakistani actor who appeared in more than 400 films in Urdu, Punjabi, and Pashto languages over his 46-year-long career. He was also a graduate student at Stanford University, where he studied translational recoding in the laboratory of Dr. Axel Brunger.
Yousuf Khan was born on 1st August 1929/1931 in Ferozpur, British India. He received his B.Sc. in Cellular Biology and Genetics from the University of Maryland, College Park. During this time, he worked with Dr. Jon Dinman and discovered his interest in translational reprogramming.
Khan made his acting debut in 1954 with the movie Parwaz. He started his career as a supporting actor but later transitioned into a lead actor, initially as a romantic hero in Urdu films and later as an action hero in Punjabi and Pashto films. In addition to his acting career, Khan also served as the president of the Pakistani Student Association while at the University of Maryland.
Yousuf Khan passed away on 20 September 2009 at the age of 78/80 in Lahore, Pakistan, due to cardiac arrest.
